Hay-on-Wye is home to the largest literacy festival in the UK, which is held annually for 11
days from the end of May to the beginning of June. The festival was born in 1988 by Peter Florence and his parents. The festival has expanded over the years to include musical performances and film previews. The festival attracts 100,000 plus visitors over the 11 days to engage with the world's writers, historians, poets and musicians. There are pop-up cafes, shops and restaurants to tempt you. Evenings are devoted to music, comedy and film. Big names sell out quickly, so it is advisable to book early! You can sign up to the mailing list and they will let you know when tickets are released, usually at the beginning of April.
